At WhatsGood, our goal is to strengthen food systems by building technology for local farmers, fishermen, artisans and the communities that support them.
As a chef, Matt Tortora loved using the best fresh, local ingredients in his dishes. However, he quickly became frustrated that there was no way to easily buy from all his favorite local vendors.
He envisioned a solution, a platform, where buyers could find local, seasonal ingredients and purchase them directly from local farmers and vendors.
So he and Will Araújo gathered a team and in 2014 launched WhatsGood, an online marketplace connecting buyers with local farmers and vendors. The platform has since evolved from the initial idea as a platform just for chefs, but the mission has stayed the same: to connect communities with the people growing their food.
Our team brings experience from all aspects of the food system, and then some. We've made crepes in the back of a food truck and rotated crops on our family farms. We've planned menus and set tables. We've built our own businesses, tracked supply chains, developed marketing strategies and written code. And while we might come from diverse backgrounds, what connects us is a passion for local food.
